Sleep Disorders

Sleep disorders are when a person has a hard time sleeping or their sleeping habits are different than what is normal (Lastella & Halson, 2019). There are many types of sleep disorders that can cause problems with the quality or amount of sleep, when you sleep, or the things that happen when you sleep (Lastella & Halson, 2019). Doctors use a book called the International Classification of Sleep Disorders Revised Diagnostic and Coding Manual to help diagnose sleep disorders. This book has seven categories of sleep disorders, like insomnia and sleep-related breathing disorders. To be diagnosed with a sleep disorder, the problem must happen a lot and make it hard for the person to do things during the day, like go to school or work (American Academy of Sleep Medicine, 2014).
