Pleural Pressure

Pleural Pressure, the force acting to inflate the lung within the thorax, is generated by the opposing elastic recoils of the lung and chest wall and the forces generated by respiratory muscles. An increase in TPP during inspiration leads to expansion of the lungs, as the force acting to expand the lungs, i.e., the TPP, is now superior to the inward elastic recoil exerted by the lungs.
